Privacy Policy — SafeRing
Your phonebook never leaves this phone. Not encrypted and uploaded — never sent at all.
If you do not link the phone to a family member, nothing leaves it. The app works entirely on the device and there is no account to create.
If you do link it, a specific and short list of things is sent — set out below in full.
What the app asks for, and why
SafeRing asks for three things that touch your privacy: your contacts, permission to show notifications, and internet access.
It also carries two technical permissions that reveal nothing about you: one that lets it offer in-app purchases through Google Play, and one that lets it check whether the phone currently has a working connection. Neither can read anything on your phone.
Contacts (READ_CONTACTS)
When a call comes in, the app checks the number against the phonebook already on the phone, so it can recognise people you actually know and let them ring.
This check happens entirely on the device. Your phonebook is never copied, uploaded, or shared.
One thing is saved: if a caller is already in your phonebook, that caller's name is kept in the app's own list of screened calls, so the list can read "Dr Patel" rather than just a number. That name stays on the phone.
Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS)
Used only to tell you when a call has been stopped, so that a silenced call is never a silent mystery. Notifications are created on the phone.
Internet access (INTERNET)
Used for exactly two things: sending screened-call records to a family member you have deliberately linked this phone to, and handling a Pro purchase. If the phone is not linked, the app makes no network requests for the linking feature at all. It is never used for advertising, analytics, or crash reporting.
Call screening
To screen calls at all, SafeRing must be set as your phone's call-screening app. Android asks you for this directly, in a system dialog, and you can withdraw it at any time in your settings. This is a role granted by you, not a permission that reveals data.
What the app deliberately does not ask for
- Your call log (
READ_CALL_LOG). SafeRing never reads your phone's call history, and it never will. It keeps its own separate record, described below. - Your phone state or phone number (
READ_PHONE_STATE). - Your text messages. This version cannot see your texts at all. It does not
request
RECEIVE_SMS,READ_SMSorSEND_SMS, so it cannot read an incoming message, cannot open your message history, and cannot send a message as you. - Location, camera, microphone, storage, or call recording. None of these are requested, and SafeRing never records a call.
What the app stores on your phone
Held in the app's own private storage, which other apps cannot read. For each screened call:
- The caller's phone number, where the network provided one.
- The caller's name, if that number was already in the phonebook.
- Whether the call was allowed, silenced, or hung up.
- The reason for that decision, and which rule it matched.
- The date and time.
It also stores the settings you choose, the numbers you approve, and the numbers or patterns you block.
If you never link this phone to a family member, none of this is transmitted anywhere. If you do link it, the next section describes exactly what is sent.
What is sent when this phone is linked to a family member
Linking is optional and off until someone deliberately turns it on by entering a pairing code.
When linked, each screened call is sent to that family member's account as four pieces of information:
- the phone number that called (or a note that the number was withheld);
- whether the call was allowed, silenced, or hung up;
- which rule made that decision, and why;
- the date and time.
The caller's name is not included, even when this phone knows it. The app stores that name locally so its own history reads naturally, and deliberately strips it before anything is sent. A linked family member sees a number.
Also sent: the pairing code when you link, and a device name so the family member can tell one phone from another.
The family member signs in with their email address, which is stored so sign-in codes can be sent to it. Their email is held encrypted.
You can unlink at any time from the app's settings, which stops all sending.
Advertising and analytics
There are none. SafeRing contains no advertising, no analytics, no tracking software and no crash reporting. We do not measure how you use the app.
The app does have internet access, for the linking feature above and for purchases — so we do not claim it is incapable of sending data. What we can say is that it sends only what that section lists, and nothing about how you use the app.
Paying for Pro
Pro is optional. The call screening, the silencing and the one-tap undo are free, and stay free.
Payment is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your card, your billing address, or any payment details — those go to Google, never to us.
What we store when you buy Pro is which product you bought and when it runs out, attached to the account you signed in with. Refunds, receipts and cancellations are handled in Google Play, not by us, so you are never dependent on us answering an email to stop being charged.
Deleting your information
- Remove individual entries from the screening list inside the app.
- Clear everything at once: Android Settings → Apps → SafeRing → Storage → Clear data.
- Uninstalling SafeRing permanently deletes everything it stored on the phone.
- Unlinking stops all sending. To have a linked family member's account and its stored records deleted, email the address below.
Children
SafeRing is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version sends anything beyond what is described here, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be described plainly rather than buried. The effective date at the top will change. A version that transmits more will never ship under a policy that says it does not.
